Riverside Schools Science and Engineering Fair Projects on Display at UCR

University faculty, graduate students, school officials to judge entries

17th Annual Riverside Unified School District Science Fair

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — www.ucr.edu — The public is invited to view the more than 170 science projects on display from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 10 at the 17th Annual Riverside Unified School District Science and Engineering Fair at the University of California, Riverside. Viewings will be in the Terrace Rooms of the University Commons. Winners will be announced at a 6 p.m. ceremony in the University Theatre. For further details, contact Joy Peoples at (951) 788-7444.

Award sponsors include UC Riverside and the Riverside Public Utilities. Winners will move on to the Inland Empire Science and Engineering Fair at the Orange Showgrounds in San Bernardino April 19-20. From there, winners will advance to the state science fair in Los Angeles May 23-24.

UC Riverside faculty and graduate students, Riverside Unified School District and Riverside Public Utility officials will judge entries from grades kindergarten to 12. The science and engineering fair projects cover areas as diverse as environmental sciences, biology, behavioral and social sciences, engineering, chemistry and entomology. Giving speeches at Thursday’s award ceremony are RUSD school board member Lewis Vanderzyl; from UC Riverside, Steven Angle, dean of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; and Chinya Ravishankar, associate dean of the Bourns College of Engineering. Pamela Clute, UCR associate vice provost for academic outreach, will give the keynote address.

Parking for project viewing is available in Lot 24 next to the Amy Harrison Field. Parking for the awards ceremony is available in Lot 6. Maps and detailed parking information are available at the information kiosks at the campus entrances off of University Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard or in the online campus map and the Transportation and Parking Services Web sites. Parking on campus costs $6 per vehicle per day and may be purchased for shorter periods at the information kiosks. Parking after 4 p.m. is $5 per vehicle for the day.
