RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- UC Riverside officials announced the appointment of Jack Azzaretto as the interim replacement for Vice Chancellor for Administration C. Michael Webster, whose resignation was effective June 29.

Azzaretto will continue his duties as dean of University Extension and vice chancellor for public service and international programs, according to the announcement by Chancellor France A. Cordova and Ellen Wartella, executive vice chancellor and provost.

“Jack is a strong, respected manager whose 12 years as an administrator at UCR, great knowledge of the campus, business acumen and community contacts will help our campus through this transition. We have great confidence in him,” Cordova said.

A national search is being launched for a permanent vice chancellor for administration. The portfolio will be realigned to be more like that for those of vice chancellors for administration at other University of California campuses.

Immediately, the Student Recreation Center, campus housing, campus dining and campus life functions will permanently move to Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs James Sandoval, while real estate services and audit and advisory functions will shift to Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Budget Gretchen Bolar.

On the advice of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, chaired by Professor Anthony Norman, Cordova will directly oversee intercollegiate athletics. The committee is composed of faculty, staff and the president of the UCR Athletics Association, Gene Tyrrell.

Functions remaining with the vice chancellor for administration are physical plant, human resources, financial services, design and construction, the child development center, police services, material management, bookstore, environmental health and safety and transportation and parking services, accounting/payroll, fleet, mail, printing and the division's technology services.

During Azzaretto’s interim term, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Physical Plant Mike Miller will assume a larger role, overseeing design and construction on the campus in addition to his duties in charge of facilities, physical plant and the corporation yard.
