Editor's Note: For more information contact Armando Navarro, Ph.D., Chair of the Ethnic Studies Department at (909) 787-4577, Ext. 1826, or Mary Ann Gonzales at the Center for Social and Behavioral Sciences at (909) 787-2196.

Green Party Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader will speak Oct. 20 at the University of California, Riverside discussing his platform in a question-and-answer session with faculty and members of the audience.

Nader's speech is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the University Theatre. It is free and open to the public. Nader has criticized the bipartisan Committee on Presidential Debates for shutting third party-candidates such as himself and the Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan out of the televised events.

Nader will discuss his presidential platform, which includes support for a living wage, alternative energy sources, and accessible and universal health care.

A panel of UCR faculty and students will question Nader on the specifics of his platform. The audience will also be able to ask questions.

According to moderator Armando Navarro, professor and chair of the Ethnic Studies Department, Nader's visit to UCR is believed to be the first by a presidential candidate since the 1968 Peace candidate, Eugene McCarthy, spoke to more than 3,000 next to the university commons.

Parking at $5 per vehicles will be available in lot 30 at Canyon Crest Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
