UCR Film Students Get Closer Look at Hollywood Veteran

Hollywood Director Pancho Kohner will be speaking on the various aspects of filmmaking

(February 23, 2006)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) - Hollywood director and producer Pancho Kohner will be speaking on the various aspects of filmmaking through the making of his first film The Bridge in the Jungle, from 3:15 to 4:30pm on Thursday, March 2 in Special Collections on the 4th floor of Rivera Library.

Limited seats will be available. The event is in relation to the B. Traven Archive in Special Collections. Kohner, who was close to Traven, has extensive experience in the motion picture industry, specializing in the action/adventure genre in the 80’s, and has produced and directed films for MGM, United Artists, and Tristar Pictures.

The event will consist of showing excerpts from the 1970 film with Kohner commenting on his first experience as a director, scriptwriter, and producer. Students will then have the opportunity to ask questions and seek advice from Kohner on the artistic and financial aspects of filmmaking. A brief reception, ending at 5 pm, will follow.

In addition to his own impressive achievements, Kohner is the son of the late Paul Kohner, one of Hollywood’s most legendary agents, and Ms. Lupita Tovar, one of Mexico’s best-loved and most popular film stars. Kohner is also the uncle of Paul and Chris Weitz, directors of the blockbuster “American Pie” movies.
