UCR Music, Dance Concerts to Air on UCTV

Chicano musical group Quetzal and undergraduate dancers will be featured in two programs.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — Two programs from UC Riverside — a concert featuring a renowned Chicano musical group and undergraduate dancers — will air on UCTV) in August.

A February concert by the Los Angeles-based Quetzal will air for one week beginning at 6 a.m. Aug. 6. The group mixes Mexican and Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock. Members include Martha González, Quetzal Flores, César Castro, Juan Pérez, Quincy McCrary and Andy Mendoza.

"Quetzal" also will air at 3 a.m. Aug. 7, 9 a.m. Aug. 8, midnight Aug. 9, 1 p.m. Aug. 10, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 11, and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 12.

“Gluck Contemporary Dance Ensemble: Action Figures,” a program featuring undergraduate students in stylized movement that metaphorically addresses the odyssey of college life, will air beginning at 6 a.m. Aug. 20. The program was choreographed by UCR faculty and set against a collage of music, varying from rousing marches to rhythmic tribal chants.

Other air dates include: 3 a.m. Aug. 21, 9 a.m. Aug. 22, midnight Aug. 23, 1 p.m. Aug. 24, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 25, and 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Aug. 26.

UCTV can be seen in Riverside on Charter Digital 95, Direct Broadcast Satellite, Dish Network Channel 9412, and on the Internet and Google Video.
