Public school lessons are available for review at the Learning Resources Display Center

(October 14, 2008)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- Parents and others who want to look through reading and language arts textbooks and other materials up for adoption for kindergarten through eighth grade public school students have a resource at UC Riverside.

The Learning Resources Display Center in the Rivera Library at UC Riverside is Riverside County’s official spot for public review of materials that will be voted upon by the California Board of Education Nov. 5 and 6.

“The public must have a role in reviewing these materials so they may share their thoughts on providing students with the best reading/language arts textbooks that will guide what our children learn in school,” said Jack O’Connell, state superintendent of public instruction. “I encourage parents and all interested parties to participate in this process. Their comments will then form the new adoption list for the State Board of Education to consider.”

Teachers and the public may view the materials and submit written comments on forms available at the center. Comments must be received by the state Board of Education by Oct. 31.
