RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) – UC Riverside will host a gathering from 12 noon to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in conference room D of the UCR Extension Center so that Inland residents can view the keynote addresses from the sold out Women’s Conference 2008, held at the Long Beach Convention Center.

During that time, speeches are scheduled from hosts California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Inside Edition’s Deborah Norville and CNN anchor Campbell Brown.

The annual conference is popular, with about 12,000 people registered to attend in person. This year the conference will reach beyond the walls of the convention center with broadcasts in partnership with educational institutions, military bases, businesses and women’s organizations. Conference organizers want to gather a million women in California.

“This was a specific request from the Governor’s office to make sure the Inland region had a chance to be part of the conversation about issues important to women, and important to society,” said Marcia McQuern, associate vice chancellor, external relations. “We invite people to take advantage of this chance to network with others in the area.”

UC Riverside will provide beverages, so that interested people can bring in a lunch and enjoy each other’s company while they take in the speeches. The atmosphere is informal, so people can come for some or all of the presentation. The UCR Extension Center is located at 1200 University Ave., Riverside. Please RSVP to (951) 827-5184.
