RIVERSIDE, Calif. – David Funder, distinguished professor of psychology, has won the Jack Block Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) for distinguished contributions in personality psychology. The award will be presented at the society’s annual meeting in Tampa, Fla., Feb. 7.

Funder’s research focuses on the accuracy of personality judgments, particularly the circumstances under which such judgments are likely to be accurate.

“This honor is especially meaningful to me because, long ago, I was an undergraduate student of Professor Jack Block, for whom the award is named, at UC Berkeley,” Funder said.

The Jack Block Award is a prestigious honor given by the Society for Personality and Social Psychology for an accumulation of distinguished scientific contributions to the field of personality psychology, said Glenn Stanley, professor and chair of the UCR Department of Psychology.

“Typically this annual award is given to those near the end of a distinguished career; however, Professor Funder’s cumulative contributions earned him this award in the middle of his career, a testament to the impact of those contributions,” he said.

The Society for Personality and Social Psychology was founded in 1974 and includes more than 4,500 members from around the world.
