RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- Peter A. Hayashida has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor for University Advancement at the University of California, Riverside.

Hayashida, who currently serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Affairs at UCLA as well as Executive Director of the UCLA Foundation, will assume this new role effective July 1.

The Advancement division includes fundraising, alumni and constituent relations, event management and protocol, and strategic communications.

"This is a terrific and strategic appointment for UCR,” said Chancellor Timothy P. White. “Peter brings a wealth of skills and experience that are ideal for the needs of our campus at this time. He will help build our advancement infrastructure, support our academic programs, and create new opportunities for our faculty and students. Through his leadership, Peter will help take our campus to the next level."

The chancellor offered his thanks to Dan Aldrich, who has been serving in the position on an interim basis since October. “Dan brought an energy and insight that earned the respect and appreciation of all both inside and outside the University,” White said. “UCR is in a better position today because of Dan's unselfish leadership." He said Aldrich will stay on through the transition to close out ongoing projects.

Hayashida has extensive experience building high-performing, integrated institutional advancement teams, encompassing fundraising strategy and donor cultivation and stewardship. He has expertise in strategic planning, budget, human resources, and organizational development, as well as previous experience in senior programmatic, governance, and operational roles with UCLA's alumni association and other volunteer groups.

"UC Riverside is a remarkable institution with exceptional people and boundless potential,” Hayashida said. “I am delighted and honored to be joining the team driving the innovation and excellence that have made UCR a rising star among the nation's leading research universities."

Hayashida will have responsibility for developing a strategy for a comprehensive campaign for the campus and, in particular, for the UCR School of Medicine, which is in the planning stages. The University Advancement office is supported by an annual budget of approximately $10 million, and has a staff of 90 full time equivalent employees.

David Stewart, dean of the UCR Anderson Graduate School of Management, and chair of the search committee, said, “Peter is an outstanding choice for UCR. He brings impeccable skill as a manager of a large advancement organization at a world class sister campus. He has a breadth of experience in university advancement including leadership in a major capital campaign.”

Vice Chancellor Hayashida will earn an annual base salary of $265,000. In keeping with UC policy, additional compensation will include moving expenses, automobile allowance, participation in the Senior Management Supplemental Benefit Program, and eligibility for a Mortgage Origination Program loan.
