RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- UC Riverside professors and novelists Susan Straight and Andrew Winer will read and discuss their new novels at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 at UC Riverside Libraries Special Collections & Archives.

Admission to the discussion is free. Parking costs $6. Special Collections is located on the fourth floor of the Rivera Library.

“Sometimes I do more speaking and reading off campus, than on,” said Straight, the author of seven novels and one of UCR’s growing constellation of fiction writers with national reputations. “I always like reading in Special Collections because UCR has such an amazing library.”

Straight, a Guggenheim Fellow and a finalist for the National Book Award, will read from her latest novel, “Take One Candle Light a Room.” She was the Distinguished Teaching Award winner for 2007-2008 at the university.

She is joined by Assistant Professor Andrew Winer, who will discuss his second novel, “The Marriage Artist.” Winer is the graduate advisor of the MFA program in creative writing, and a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Fiction, as well as the 2009 Innovative Teaching Award.

After the discussion, they will take part in a Q and A session, and participate in a small reception that will include homemade caramel cupcakes. More information is available at 951-827-3233.
