(December 22, 2010)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- UC Riverside shut off power to several buildings because of water rising in an underground electrical vault. Power was restored about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22.

Buildings impacted: Surge, physical education, the bookstore, the HUB, Costo Hall, Student Services, CHASS Interdisciplinary, Humanities and Social Sciences, ARTS, and MSE (material science and engineering.)

Environmental Health and Safety employees are advising that power will be at normal levels for Thursday, Dec. 23.

The only campus food outlet available on Thursday will be the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

Students are generally not on campus and because of the holidays the campus is not heavily populated.

"This would be a good time for students, staff and faculty to update information in the emergency notification system on campus," said Russell Vernon, research safety manager for Environmental Health and Safety.
