RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — Five-thousand red flags were posted around UC Riverside bell tower Thursday, Dec. 1 to draw attention to World AIDS Day.

The flags represent less than 1 percent of those that die annually from HIV/AIDS-related illnesses, said Devon Sakamoto, health education coordinator at The Well and one of the organizers of the event. Many of flags include the names of that died from those illnesses.

The flag posting and other World AIDS Day related events around the bell tower were coordinated by four campus groups: the UC Riverside Committee on HIV/AIDS, Student Wellness Partners, Education For All and Golden Arches.
