Applications Open for New Undergraduate Scholarship

(October 1, 1999)

Applications are now being accepted from undergraduate engineering majors for a $2,000 scholarship funded by the Washington, D.C.-based American Methanol Foundation. Application deadline is Nov. 1.

The student chosen to receive the award will receive a $500 scholarship for the Winter 2000 quarter and a $1,500 research stipend to undertake a research project involving methanol as an alternative transportation fuel. The student may also be eligible to work next summer as an intern for the American Methanol Institute, a trade association for the methanol industry.

The American Methanol Foundation is a non-profit educational and scientific organization dedicated to supporting the greater use of methanol as a cleaner burning fuel. This is the first year that the foundation has provided a scholarship to UCR.

Scholarship applications can be obtained at the Bourns College of Engineering Student Affairs Office, A159 Bourns Hall, or at the College of Engineering-Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), 1200 Columbia Ave., Riverside. The application can also be found online at http://www.cert.ucr.edu.
