RIVERSIDE, Calif. — (Aug. 6, 2004) — The University of California, Riverside today announced the appointment of Dr. William G. Boldt, Ed.D. to the position of Vice Chancellor for University Advancement. He will assume his duties on September 27.

Dr. Boldt, age 56, comes to UC Riverside from a successful ten-year career as Vice President for University Advancement at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he recently led that campus in its first comprehensive campaign, the largest in the nation for any public masters university. The seven-year, $225 million campaign exceeded its initial goal 13 months ahead of schedule, thus far raising more than $245 million from over 170,000 gifts and pledges. Under his leadership private support for Cal Poly increased from $11.6 million in 1994-95 to a record $44.3 million in 2001-02. The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) ranks Cal Poly among the top universities nationally in fund raising within its classification.

“We are very pleased to announce this important appointment,” said Ellen Wartella, UC Riverside executive vice chancellor and provost. “Bill’s knowledge, experience and successful track record in fundraising will be critical to helping UCR achieve its many ambitious goals.”

In January 2004 UCR Chancellor France A. Córdova launched a two year $50 million campaign with a primary goal of enhancing student education by significantly increasing resources for current and endowed undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, faculty chairs and academic programs.

“I am honored to be joining the UC Riverside team,” said Boldt. “The vision and leadership of Chancellor Córdova, the vice chancellors and the deans are very impressive as is the quality and commitment of the faculty, staff and students. I look forward to meeting and working with UCR’s many alumni and community supporters.”

Prior to serving at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Dr. Boldt was Assistant Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and District Director of Statewide Marketing at Cornell University where he launched the college’s first capital campaign with a goal of $95 million and achieved a final result of $125 million. He has also held academic and administrative positions at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. He holds a B.S. in community Service and Public Affairs, an M.S. in Administration of Community and Leisure Services, and an Ed.D. in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from the University of Oregon. During his career, he has served as a marketing and fund raising consultant for over 30 land grant universities in the United States and four universities in Canada. Under his leadership, Cal Poly received four consecutive National CASE Circle of Excellence Awards for overall performance in Educational Fund Raising and he received special awards for service, development, and performance.

Dr. Boldt will receive a salary of $210,000 and he and his wife of 30 years, Genene, will reside in Riverside.
