Michael Jaime-Becerra, an assistant professor in UCR’s Department of Creative Writing, discusses his book “Every Night is Ladies Night” on the “Connie Martinson Talks Books” television show at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12. Jaime-Becerra’s book is a collection of interrelated stories that present a portrait of a community whose members seek their own place beyond their immediate, physical world. The James Reserve will be highlighted in a 30-minute program at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23. Located in Southern California's San Jacinto Mountains, the James Reserve is administered by UC Riverside. It is at the forefront of an effort to use high technology to gain insight into the natural world. Embedded cameras monitor the nesting cycles of birds, sensor networks track weather data on habitat microclimates and computers map out the potential damage from wildfires.
