The theme of the conference will be “Out of the Rainbow & Into the Streets” and will explore the metaphor of the rainbow as the symbol of the homogeneity of LGBTQIA community, which many feel has often excluded and misrepresented various constituencies. It will also examine the kinds of actions that should be taken to help eliminate stereotyping and gain equal access under the law.
A preliminary list of speakers includes: Staceyann Chin, writer, performer and political activist; Dragonsani Renteria, founder of the National Deaf Queer Resource Center; and Cherrie Moraga, poet, playwright and essayist.
“We are very happy to be hosting the conference at UC Riverside,” said Nancy Jean Tubbs, director of UCR’s LGBT Resource Center. “We hope those attending the conference will leave here with information that will assist them in creating safe, healthy and inclusive environments in their communities.”
