UCR Today: New News, New Look. Go!

At approximately 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, detectives with the University of California Riverside Police Department arrested Audley Yung, 22, of Richmond, Calif. in connection with a series of on-campus incidents that led to the cancellation of Friday evening's graduation ceremony.

Yung, a former UC Riverside student, was arrested at his off-campus Riverside apartment and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on three charges:

Penal Code Section 12303.3 Possession of a destructive device
Penal Code Section 451(c) Arson
Penal Code Section 422 Terrorist threats

His bail has been set at $25,000.

Investigators believe that Mr. Yung acted alone and that no other individuals were involved in these incidents. The arrest is based on physical evidence and statements by Mr. Yung. Further details of the investigation and the evidence cannot be released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Mr. Yung attended UC Riverside in 2002 and 2003. He attended UC Riverside summer session courses in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He is not enrolled for the upcoming summer session. He entered as a biological sciences major and later changed to undeclared in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

UCR Police Chief Mike Lane thanked the Riverside Police and Fire departments, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, the Office of the State Fire Marshal ATF, FBI, the Ontario Airport Police Department for their invaluable assistance and support during this investigation.

"I would like to also thank my own UC Riverside Police detectives who worked day and night over the past 48 hours to develop the information that led to today's arrest. Thanks as well to all of our students and their families. They have been terrific and we appreciate their patience and understanding," Lane said.
