RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- A controlled burn in a plot within the agricultural research fields of UC Riverside will do double duty. It will serve the interests of research, as well as serve as a training exercise. Smoke will be visible starting early Saturday, August 8, west of Canyon Crest Drive and south of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The burn is part of a research project investigating erosion and reforestation following fires, led by Associate Professor David Crohn. Campus emergency services staff, along with Riverside fire personnel, will be monitoring the fire as well as participating in training exercises at the site.

The activities should be concluded by noon. More information is available from Jeff Kraus, community relations, at UC Riverside, (951) 827-7073.
