RIVERSIDE, CA —www.ucr.edu—The —Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts at the University of California, Riverside, in conjunction with the UCR/California Museum of Photography, presents Dancing With Technologies from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday Nov. 23, at the UCR/California Museum of Photography 3824 Main Street in downtown Riverside. Dancing With Technologies seeks to introduce people to emerging dance forms that experiment with new technologies. For the last decade choreographers and digital artists from all over the world have been generating a substantial body of work, commonly called dance-technology or digital dance, a progression from the already long tradition of dance for the camera and the popularity of music videos. Ranging in different formats, technologies and aesthetic attitudes, dance-tech is challenging current dance practices and conceptions, and the role of the body in the information age.

This special event presented by Gluck Graduate Dance Fellow Isabel Valverde will include a video screening of dance-tech works developed by artists from around the world, as well as a short mixed reality solo performance by Valverde. At the conclusion of the event, audience members will be invited to participate in a dance-tech workshop on physical/virtual movement improvisation.

Dancing With Technologies is sponsored by the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts at UC Riverside and is made possible through the generosity of the Maxwell H. Gluck Foundation. Additional support is provided by the UCR/California Museum of Photography.

Established in 1996, the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts at UC Riverside is a privately-funded arts outreach program that is designed to create the opportunity for faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students of the Departments of Creative Writing, Dance, History of Art, Music, Theatre and the Sweeney Art Gallery and UCR/California Museum of Photography to extend their creative, performative, and expository talents to local schools, nursing homes, and community centers that have little or no access to the arts.

Isabel Valverde is a Ph.D. candidate in Dance History and Theory at UC Riverside. She received her B.A. in dance from the Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa in Portugal and her M.A. from San Francisco State University.
