Annual UCR Career Week set for Nov. 13-17

Career information seminars, job search workshops and the Science & Engineering Career Day will highlight UCR Career Week 2000, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 13, through Friday, Nov. 17. All Career Week events are open to UCR undergraduates and graduate students free of charge.

Representatives from more than 60 businesses and government agencies interested in recruiting college students for career positions or internships will participate in a special feature of Career Week, the Science & Engineering Career Day scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, on the Commons Mall.

Students in all majors in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and the Bourns College of Engineering are invited to attend. Students can circulate resumes, network and learn about employment opportunities. Among the firms and agencies participating will be Walt Disney Imagineering, the Scripps Research Institute, Clinical Microsensors (a life science division of Motorola), the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, Unisys Corp. and Verizon Communications.

In addition, seminars and workshops will be presented throughout the week on such topics as teaching overseas, sports management, pharmaceutical sales, Washington, D.C. internship opportunities, resume and cover letter writing, effective interviewing, and the graduate school application process.

Disney Consumer Products and the U.S. Peace Corps will each host an event to promote career opportunities within their organizations.
