Stewart, a social anthropologist at UC, Davis, studies African-American society and culture focusing on literature. His talk, titled "High Mas: Carnival in African-American Spiritual Culture," will be the fifth event in the two-year African Diaspora Lecture Series sponsored by the Department of History, the Center for Ideas and Society, and the Center for Social and Behavioral Science Research at UCR.
