Regents Consider Medical School Plans

Media Advisory: UC Regents to Consider New Medical School at UC Riverside

EVENTS:The Committee on Educational Policy of The Regents of the University of California will discuss whether UC Riverside may proceed with the next phase of planning for a proposed School of Medicine; 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006.

The committee will present its report to the full Board of Regents at 11:20 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006. A 20-minute public comment period for addressing items on the board’s agenda will take place at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006.

BACKGROUND:In May 2006, UCR proposed to establish a School of Medicine that would serve the medically underserved in Inland Southern California by training a diverse workforce of physicians, with innovations in research, education, and health care delivery that resound throughout the state and nation. If approved, the medical school also would help transform the Inland Empire to a knowledge-driven economy, attracting start-up companies and venture capital to the region.
