UCR Provost Candidate Tom Campbell Withdraws

(December 17, 2010)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. –- UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Professor Tom Campbell called Chancellor Timothy P. White today and, with the greatest respect for both the chancellor and the campus, withdrew his name from consideration in the search for a new executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Riverside.

Campbell, formerly dean of the Haas School and a former state and federal elected official, was part of a larger pool of candidates that resulted from a national search for the chief academic and operating officer position on the Riverside campus.

The search, which is expected to conclude in the first half of 2011, is ongoing. The committee advising Chancellor Timothy White continues to review candidates who will be invited to public interviews on campus. Campbell related his withdrawal in a telephone call with White today.

White, who co-chairs the search committee with Dean Stephen Cullenberg of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, has emphasized his commitment to engage candidates who are qualified through academic background and administrative experience to fill this crucial leadership role. The executive vice chancellor and provost will oversee implementation of UCR 2020: The Path to Preeminence, the University’s strategic blueprint for the coming decade.
