African Essay Contest To Be Held by UCR Sorority

An essay contest addressing the historical and contemporary development of African nations will be held by the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority at the University of California, Riverside.

The Mwanamugimu (meaning small acorns develop into big trees) Essay Contest is for students aged 10 to 16. The university students will work individually with contestants to teach research and writing skills. Contact should be made no later than Monday, Feb. 1, with program organizer Tiffany Fountain at (909) 788-4183.

Deadline for submission of completed work is Saturday, Feb. 19. An awards ceremony will be held beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in room 1406 of the Humanities Building on the UCR campus.
