Society of Women Engineers Invite Girl Scouts, Brownies to Explore Wonderful World of Engineering

(May 1, 2003)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — May 1, 2003— The Media is invited to the Society of Women Engineers’ Girl Scouts Badge Day, at the University of California, Riverside, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday May 3.

About 100 girls ages 6 to 12 will explore the science, and fun, behind the engineering of everything from making ice cream, how things fly and why antennas work, to designing and building electric generators. The activities will be applied to the girls’ space and aeronautical badges.

Activities begin in room 284 of the campus Surge Building (number 58 on the campus online map) and will continue in the lawn area outside the building and inside the University Lecture Hall next door. The event is a collaboration between the UC Riverside student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and the Girl Scout Council of San Gorgonio. About a dozen members of UC Riverside’s SWE chapter, who are undergraduate engineering students, will be leading the day’s activities.
