RIVERSIDE, Calif. — — UC Riverside Chancellor, France A. Córdova issued the following statement today following the appointment of Robert C. Dynes as the new president of the University of California.

“On behalf of the entire UC Riverside campus community, I want to extend a warm welcome to President-Designate Dynes. We are fortunate to have the experience and leadership he brings to this position as the university faces the many opportunities and challenges before it.

Bob is a dear friend and colleague who graciously participated in my recent inaugural activities, including an Academic-Community Roundtable. He identified cultural diversity as an important university focus for the 21st Century during that discussion and illustrated his point with a reference to a UC San Diego program called California Cultures in Comparative Perspective, which I thought exemplified a visionary, multi-disciplinary approach within a public university’s three-fold mission of research, teaching and public service, which is similar to the strategy we are implementing at UC Riverside. I offer Bob my support and my sincere best wishes as he begins this exciting journey.

We also want to thank President Atkinson for his many accomplishments and contributions during his eight-year tenure. While he will be missed, he leaves a legacy of achievement that will be recognized by faculty, staff and students for many years to come. May he enjoy a retirement filled with good health, good friends and good experiences. ”
