Women's Financial Planning Seminar Offered

UC Riverside Foundation Offers Seminar on Financial Planning For Women

Sessions Include Trusts and Estate Planning, Keeping the IRS at Bay,
And Developing an Effective Financial Strategy

RIVERSIDE, Calif. —— The University of California, Riverside Foundation is offering a financial planning seminar geared to women from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 28, at UC Riverside Extension, 1200 University Ave. The $20 cost covers parking, lunch and a seminar packet.

The UC Riverside Office of Gift Planning and Cindy Roth, President and CEO of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce host the seminar, titled “Diving Deeper Into Your Financial Plan: We’ve Oceans of Information for You.” A panel of speakers will lead sessions covering estate, tax, financial and retirement planning. The speakers and sessions include:

  • “Trusts and Other Treasures for Estate Planning,” with Teresa J. Rhyne, a partner in the law firm of Carney and Delany, LLP, whose practice focuses on estate and retirement planning. Rhyne graduated from UC Santa Cruz and received her J.D. in 1986 from Loyola Law School. She has served on the board of directors of the Riverside County Bar Association, twice as chair of the association’s Tax and Business section.

  • “Shark Attack, Keeping the IRS at Bay,” with Nora L. Teasley, CPA, a partner with Ahern Adcock Devlin LLP. She received her M.B.A. from Cal State University San Bernardino and a master’s degree in business taxation from the University of Southern California. She has served as an adjunct professor in management science in the Whitehead College Program at the University of Redlands, as a lecturer and instructor in UC Riverside’s Extension program, and has lectured at other regional colleges.

  • “There are Many Fish in the Sea: How to Catch Your Fair Share,” with Eileen E. Ashwal, CFP, senior financial advisor with Waddell and Reed in Riverside. Ashwal is a graduate in classics from New York University and earned her M.B.A. from UC Riverside. She has also lectured at UC Riverside and at Riverside Community College and is a frequent contributor on financial topics to Inland Empire Magazine where she addresses the need for women to plan now for their financial future.

Established in 1977 under California law, the UCR Foundation administers and records all philanthropic gifts in accordance with each donor’s wishes. A volunteer board of trustees with elected officers oversees the foundation, which is staffed by a team of professional development officers who are university employees. The foundation does not receive any philanthropic gifts but is a mechanism to raise and manage private support for the sole benefit of UC Riverside. The foundation’s corporate powers are vested in its board of trustees, which manages the foundation’s business affairs and property.
