“UC Riverside has much to be proud of as it marks the 50 year milestone in the campus's history,” said Chancellor Córdova. “Since our first pioneer class in 1954 we have continued to grow in excellence, and we have built a strong foundation for teaching, research, and public service. The distinguished achievements represented by our 55,000 alumni evidence that quality higher education serves the State and nation superbly well. Yet this quality of education and its affordability to students are now challenged by proposed large fee increases and severe cutbacks in all major areas of the university. A campaign for student education is urgently needed to maintain affordability and quality in the education UCR delivers.”
Large cutbacks in state funding for the UC system, amounting to about 800 million dollars over the past three years, have come in the face of a double-digit increase in enrollment. Details about the 50th Anniversary Campaign can be found on the campaign Web site.
