RIVERSIDE, Calif. — www.ucr.edu — Rancho Cucamonga CPA Joseph Barr was named the 2006 Executive Fellow of the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Riverside during a luncheon at the school’s Anderson Hall Friday.

“Mr. Joe Barr has been a model business executive in the community and on the UCR Campus,” said UCR Chancellor France A. Córdova during the installation ceremony. “It is with great pleasure that I name Mr. Barr the 2006 Executive Fellow of the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management here on our UCR campus. Finally, Joe, I hope you enjoy your stay as our honored guest in the classrooms, holding office hours, and among the faculty and administrators who look forward to hosting you during our spring quarter.”

The spring quarter begins March 29.

Barr has more than 30 years experience in public accounting with a lengthy career with the international accounting firm Ernst & Young, LLP, where he became a partner. He has spent the past eight years at the Rancho Cucamonga-based Swenson Corporation where he is a principal partner and oversees the training and supervision of the audit personnel and manages the audit practice.

Barr has long been a supporter of UCR. He is a member of the board and past president of the UCR Athletic Association, sits on the AGSM Dean’s Advisory Council and is a member of the Accounting Alumni Association and the Professional Advisory Board.

His professional involvements include membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Barr’s community involvement includes board membership and chairmanship of the audit committee of Riverside-based Provident Financial Bank. He sits on the board of trustees of the Riverside Community Hospital and on the finance committee of the Riverside Community Health Foundation.

“We are extremely honored that Joe Barr has agreed to be this year’s Executive Fellow and hope he finds the experience as valuable as we will find his expertise,” said Raymond Williams, interim dean at AGSM.

As an Executive Fellow, Barr will give lectures at AGSM and keep office hours where he will be available to advise students and interact with faculty. AGSM founded the Executive Fellows program in 1991 to bring the professional experience and perspective of the region’s top business leaders to the UCR campus. Each year, faculty and staff nominate candidates for installation as fellows and these nominees are then voted on by the school’s Executive Committee. UCR Chancellor France A. Córdova confirms these selections and installs them.

The A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management offers an MBA program enrolling more than 100 students and now offers an undergraduate major in business administration for approximately 2,300 students.

UCR is one of only two University of California campuses that offer an undergraduate business administration major. The school of management in 2003 received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The management school’s faculty members also conduct research in management, accounting, marketing, operations, finance and management information systems.
