Rescheduled Commencement Ceremony Takes Place

Friends and Family Attend Rescheduled Commencement Ceremony

Seventy-seven percent of the candidates participate in the ceremony

(June 18, 2007)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The rescheduled commencement ceremony for business majors from UC Riverside's College of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences took place at 9 a.m. today at the Bell Tower Mall on campus. Of the 544 candidates who indicated they would attend the ceremony, 428 participated. Between 4,000 and 5,000 people, including the graduates, attended this morning's ceremony.

Heightened security measures were in place. No backpacks, camera bags, grocery bags or wrapped gifts were allowed, and all purses were subject to search.

"Many relatives and friends came to honor these students on this special occasion. I was happy to be able to celebrate with them today and to shake each student's hand," said UC Riverside Chancellor France Córdova. "We're sorry for the inconvenience these students faced due to the cancellation on Friday. I regret that some of the students and their family members were unable to attend today's events."

This morning's commencement ceremony was originally scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, June 15. It was canceled and rescheduled due to credible threats targeting Friday's ceremony.
