(October 17, 2007)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu)— Part of a lecture presented recently at UC Riverside by environmental policy expert Adrienne Alvord will air on Monday, Oct. 22, at 6:55 p.m. and 10:55 p.m. on KVCR TV.

Alvord, who helped craft California’s landmark legislation to reduce greenhouse gases, kicked off UCR's Global Studies Speaker Series on Oct. 15. A five-minute segment featuring her presentation will air on the San Bernardino public television station, which is affiliated with PBS.

The speaker series is sponsored by the Global Studies Program, which is an interdisciplinary program in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This year’s theme is “Global Professions, Global Action.”

Alvord was a state Assembly staff member who played a crucial role last year in the creation and passage of AB 32. She is the director of governmental affairs for Amyris Biotechnologies, a startup biotech company engaged in research leading to the development of biofuels and novel pharmaceuticals, such as an affordable treatment for malaria.
