RIVERSIDE, Calif. – As film fans around the world mourn the death today of Elizabeth Taylor, UC Riverside theater professor Charles Evered recalls the Hollywood icon as a gifted actress.

"One thing that often gets overlooked with Ms. Taylor is the fact that aside from her glamorous Hollywood career and her storied and sometimes tempestuous personal life, she was an amazing actress as well,” said Evered. “Sadly, sometimes the outsized personality overshadowed the talent, but the talent was most definitely there.”

Evered is an associate professor of theater and an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and film director. His published plays include “The Size of the World and Other Plays,” “The Shoreham and Other Plays,” “Wilderness of Mirrors,” “Celadine,” “Clouds Hill” and “Adopt a Sailor.” He has written screenplays for Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks and Universal Pictures among others. His produced film and TV credits include a feature adaptation of his play “Running Funny” and an episode of USA Network's “Monk,” starring Tony Shalhoub. He made his feature film directing debut with his adaptation of “Adopt a Sailor,” starring Bebe Neuwirth, Peter Coyote and Ethan Peck.

Evered is available for interviews about Elizabeth Taylor.
