Students and Faculty of UCR Dance up a March Storm

(February 18, 1999)

UCR is Dancing '99 -- the annual dance concert presented by the Department of Dance at the University of California, Riverside -- will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13, in the University Theater. A matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Student dancers perform an evening of premieres by student choreographers Eric Lorico, John Medina, Samantha Smrekar, Jennifer Twilley, Joy Wilson and Naseem Yahya, and faculty members Wendy Rogers and Fred Strickler.

This year's performance, directed by Rogers, showcases new ideas and experiments in original dance making, including an ensemble fusing hip hop and modern dance, a bracing men's duet, a crowd of facial expressions, a lyric solo and more.

Tickets are $8 general and $6 for students and seniors with free parking in nearby Lot 6. The matinee performance will offer a two-for-one deal.

Tickets can be purchased at the University Theater ticket office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, or at the door one hour before each performance. Tickets can also be purchased at the University Village Postal Annex and at TicketMaster on-line at http://www.ticketmaster.com or at any TicketMaster location. Additional information is available at the ticket office, (909) 787-4331.
