Filmed by a UC Riverside crew, “Riverside Report: Crisis in Higher Education,” will air on UCTV at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26 on Charter Digital Cable channel 95. This new program takes a look at UCR’s Mathematical ACTS (Achievement and Collaboration for Teachers and Students). Through the five-year project, educators from UCR and the Jurupa Unified School District are working together to improve student’s success in Algebra I. Stay tuned to UCTV for more local programming from UCR in the future.
UCTV’s allotted channel space on Charter digital cable presents a new source of educationally oriented television programming to a significant area of inland Southern California. UCTV combines the resources and activities of all the UC campuses and affiliated institutions throughout the state. With content as diverse as the campuses themselves, UCTV broadcasts interviews, lectures, documentaries, and performances covering subjects such as health and medicine, science, public affairs, and the arts. UCTV’s new 24-hour channel reaches Charter digital cable subscribers in Norco, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Rancho Cucamonga, as well as some unincorporated areas of Riverside County.
“We hope that this partnership with UCTV, the City of Riverside and Charter Communications, will lead to additional programming possibilities, both on the campus and throughout the community,” said Jack Azzaretto, UC Riverside's vice chancellor for public service and international programs and the campus representative on the UCTV systemwide advisory group.
“UC Riverside and its surrounding communities play an essential part in the success of the UC system statewide,” stated Alison Gang, UCTV’s communications manager. “We are so pleased to be able to bring the entire UC package to the Inland Empire.”
For Charter Communications, UCTV’s channel launch demonstrates the cable system’s use of its technology to offer local-oriented programming that is important to the communities it serves. “This is just one of several changes that our customers can expect in regards to local educational programming,” stated Dusty Garza, manager of government and community relations. “This commitment to locally relevant content is something our competitors are unable to do and we are particularly excited about expanding our relationship with UC Riverside and the UC system.”
Viewers can watch UCTV 24 hours a day. Each night during primetime (from 8 to 11 p.m.), the channel features a different thematic line-up of programming. This month, UCTV stays on top of the news cycle with in-depth coverage of the issues facing voters in the upcoming election. For programming information and schedules visit www.uctv.tv/election2004/.
