RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) -- Erik Rolland, an associate professor of information systems, has been appointed director of the Heckmann International Center for Entrepreneurial Management in Palm Desert, as well as associate dean for external programs at UC Riverside’s A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management.

Executive Vice Chancellor Ellen Wartella announced today (Jan. 20) that Rolland will help develop and open the new Master’s of Business Administration program that will be offered through the Palm Desert campus starting this Fall.

"Professor Rolland is the right person to provide the coordinated leadership necessary for the success and progress of UCR's Heckmann Center for Entrepreneurial Management in Palm Desert,” Wartella said. “UC Riverside is fortunate to have someone of his excellent scholarship and hands-on leadership abilities to take on this critical task. This is an exciting time for our MBA program.”

Ken Walters, executive director of the Palm Desert campus, welcomed Rolland to the team. “I’m delighted to have someone of Erik’s vision and energy to give us leadership in our exciting new MBA program in Palm Desert,” said Walters. “We are recruiting 40 select students for the new MBA class. Entrepreneurs and business leaders in the desert are jumping on board to assist the faculty to provide a compelling learning experience for the new MBA students in Palm Desert.”

Rolland said he looks forward to the new challenge. “The Heckmann Center is an exciting opportunity for UCR, and is a key component for UCR to engage in excellent, creative endeavors that will have great impact nationally and internationally,” Rolland said.

Rolland’s research relates to information systems and modeling complex problems. He earned his doctorate in Management Information Systems & Decision Sciences at Ohio State University. He also holds master's degrees in computer science and management from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration.

The Heckmann International Center for Entrepreneurial Management is a 21,209-square-foot facility named in honor of USFilter founder Richard J. Heckmann, who is now CEO and Chairman of the Board of K-2 Inc. The Heckmann Center, under construction at UC Riverside’s Palm Desert campus, will open in Fall, 2005.

The A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management offers an MBA program enrolling more than 100 students and works with the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences to offer an undergraduate major in business administration for approximately 2,300 students.

UCR is one of only two University of California campuses that offer an undergraduate business administration major, and the school of management in 2003 received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The University of California, Riverside (www.ucr.edu) is a doctoral research university, a living laboratory for groundbreaking exploration of issues critical to Inland Southern California, the state and communities around the world. Reflecting California's diverse culture, UCR's enrollment has exceeded 21,000 students. The campus opened a medical school in 2013 and has reached the heart of the Coachella Valley by way of the UCR Palm Desert Center. The campus has an annual statewide economic impact of more than $1 billion.
